Visit Fairfax: Civil War Sites

I wanted to let readers know that Visit Fairfax has just published an excellent brochure to attract Civil War tourism during the Sesquicentennial.  The well-illustrated brochure provides a general timeline of events that occurred in Fairfax County from 1861-65, including the September 11, 1861 skirmish at Lewinsville.  It also lists the multitude of Civil War-related sites in the county, from the well-known to the obscure.  I look forward to exploring many of the sites around here that I have not yet visited, and encourage others to do the same.

Ron,

A couple more things...Visit Fairfax also is maintaining a Facebook page www.facebook.com/fairfaxcivilwar and Twitter account www.twitter.com/fairfaxcivilwar to keep followers/friends up to date on the latest activities throughout the county and the Capital Region. We also produce a monthly Civil War email for people interested in getting information on the region's Civil War history www.fxva.com/150/email

Again, thanks so much for promoting this and keep up the excellent work!

Sincerely,

Patrick,

Thanks for the additional information. I am a member of the Facebook group and have learned a lot about interesting events and sites in the area. It is great to see all of the marketing that the county is doing to promote our wonderful Civil War history.

My pleasure to make readers aware of all of this!

Ron,

I grew up in Fairfax and spent much of my first forty years exploring the region. I moved to Spotsylvania in 1999 and have devoted the majority of my time to the study of the Fredericksburg area since then. I just found your blog this morning and am glad to see your efforts. I have added your blog to my site's blog roll. I look forward to your future posts.

John,

Thanks for the comment and for adding "All Not So Quiet" to your blog roll. It is also nice to discover your blog, and I have added it here.

I am a little late to exploring the area, as my 20s and most of my 30s was spent on other interests and pursuits in the DC area and abroad! I am glad to be digging into things as we approach the 150th anniversary. There is just so much to research about the Civil War history around here, as I am sure you know, and I haven't even moved much beyond McLean and Alexandria yet.
